Sonoma Cutrer "The Cutrer" Chardonnay 2006

Planted on what was once an ocean floor, The Cutrer Vineyard stands hardly a dozen miles from the Pacific shore. Featuring sandy hillside soils that rise nearly 300 feet above sea level, the vineyard is carefully watched over. Judicious crop thinning, high-density spacing, and a wide variety of rootstocks ensure a balanced, fully developed wine with great concentration and an exquisitely rich yellow-gold hue flecked with green.

Intense aromas of ripe apple are dotted with cinnamon and clove, as hazelnuts bathed in cream join fragrant notes of acacia blossoms. In the mouth, the wine is dense and concentrated, while simultaneously offering a softer, sensual side in balance. Flavors of baked apple appear alongside glazed pineapple and fresh tangerine, as a hint of clove entertains the taste buds. With its perfect backbone of acidity, the wine is fresh, alive and begging to be enjoyed again and again.

Pairing tip: Ideal with shellfish like lobster or fresh local crab, mild young goat cheeses, or a delightful sheep’s milk cheese like Manchego.

Golden yellow color with a pale hue. Seductive aromas of peach, melon, and citrus are balanced with honeysuckle and vanilla. On the palate, flavors of pears, peaches and melons are backed with lively acidity. A nice touch of vanilla-scented oak provides an added flavor dimension. The creamy palate has a lingering finish of melon and citrus fruit with a satisfying buttery complexity.

Our favorite pairing for this wine includes scallops in a cream sauce, pasta carbonara, chicken risotto and Cornish game hen.

Stags' Leap Chardonnay Napa Valley 2010

The fruit is hand picked and whole cluster pressed. In order to preserve the minerality, fresh acidity and clean fruit characteristics, this vintage did not undergo malolactic fermentation. A portion of the wine (25%) has been fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit while adding layers of taste and complexity. The wine was aged on the lees in French oak (25% new) for six months, and stirred weekly during maturation.

Aromas of honeysuckle following through to flavors of green apple and orange peel on the palate are characteristic of Stags’ Leap Chardonnay. The mid-palate is round with a creamy mouthfeel from aging on the lees and the finish has length that is complex yet crisp and balanced.
