The 2006 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines full body and richness with moderate alcohol. It has a garnet color and a nose of cassis liqueur, nutmeg and dark chocolate. On the palate, it has a rich, mouth-coating attack, great expression of fruit, a full-body and beautifully integrated tannins that lead to a long, spicy finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will give drinking pleasure through 2026.

"Not clear if this is a long-term ager, but you definitely want to give it a good decanting of at least four hours. You should even pour the glasses and let them stand for an hour. The interaction with oxygen with open the wine up and allow it to express its herbal, soft deliciousness. Airing also emphasizes the cherry and red currant fruit, letting the palate enjoy this complex, tannic wine at its best."

The aromas are layered with pipe tobacco, fermentation pumice, log cabin fire, moist steel, dried Poblano peppers and fine quality oak. We created this wine to be low in tartness yet abundant in tannins, providing impressions of friendly chock richness. The palate enters rich with sweet, ripe tannins, expanding to a greater breadth of refined textures. These harmonious qualities are so well integrated that not one takes the dominant role. This wine has a flavor profile of dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, mocha, leather, brown spice, cedar, vanilla and sweet licorice. The primary goodness of this wine is the presence of balance, with a supply texture, approachable grip and a fruit of the earth essence.

Dark rich ruby in color, this wine offers rich, complex aromas of ripe dark cherry, sweet chocolate, cinnamon, pie spice, and leather, with top notes of rose and forest floor. In the mouth this wine makes a full soft round entry, after which the acid builds nicely to make it very juicy and inviting. Loads of fine grain tannin completes the mouthfeel, with berry patch, fruit stand flavors dominating. Nice notes of clove and toasted oak round out the tremendous long finish that will keep you coming back for more. This is a very well balanced wine that will age well and pair beautifully with a wide array of foods.

Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Dark red-black in color with intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and currants interwoven with burnt toast and tar. Additional layers on the nose of rich spice with added hints of vanilla and maple. There are background notes of pencil lead as well. On the palate flavors of sweet ripe raspberries come through and the wine has smooth tannins and creamy weight with an impeccable balance and a long finish.

Still young and well-balanced with outstanding potential, it will improve even more with 3-4 more years of bottle age. Rodney Strong Sonoma Cab 2008

For the second year in a row, the 2008 vintage started off with a very dry spring, which typically produces smaller clusters, smaller berries, and less canopy overall. Frost visited many vineyards over several nights in April, further reducing potential yield. Then a hot spell engulfed the region in the middle of May, while grape clusters were flowering, again threatening to lower yields. The main growing season, however, was without incident, with warm to hot days and cool nights the rule, and all of this cabernet was harvested between September 11th and October 27th.

Aromas of blackberry, cocoa, and currant lead to a rich, layered mouthfeel, replete with black cherry, cedar, and cassis, and structured with lush, mature tannins. Enjoy this seductive cabernet sauvignon now and over the next several years.

The predominant fruit for our J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon comes from estate vineyards located directly opposite our J. Lohr Paso Robles Wine Center. The Seven Oaks vineyard was originally planted on its own rootstock, utilizing some of the original plantings from indigenous Estrella clones. The soils in our Paso Robles vineyards vary from gravelly clay loam to limestone-based soils over a relatively small parcel of land, and various rootstock and clonal combinations have been used to maximize the expression of each individual site. The different soil types and planting combinations add to and complement the palate of the Seven Oaks Cabernet and the other red varietals we produce--including Petit Verdot and Merlot--to add balance and weight to the wine.

Winemaker Jason Dodge developed this Cabernet Sauvignon’s approachable, fruit-forward style by first fermenting the must (crushed grapes) in stainless steel tanks until dry. The skins contribute flavor and tannins to the wine, so he resubmerged the cap of skins into the juice several times a day during fermentation. After pressing, he oak aged the wine to weave toasty vanilla nuances through the rich aromas and velvety flavors. A blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc rounded out the flavor profile.

Our 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals enticing aromas and lush flavors of blackberry and black cherry, with hints of mocha and toasted oak. No one wants to believe me when I tell them that they can have this wine for under $10 (very gratifying to know you are doing a good job). This is a hearty Cabernet Sauvignon with structure and concentration. I love taking this wine to get-togethers with friends. It always seems to help inspire good conversation. Dark and intense in color. Hints of cedar and oak, with layers of raspberry, plum, mocha and currant. Smooth tannins with big fruit flavors lead to a lengthy and persistent finish.
