Henrys Drive Dead Letter Office 2008

This Padthaway/ McLaren Vale blend of Shiraz offers a lovely toasted spice lift mixed with plums and red berry fruit, along with background hints fresh floral and spearmint characters.

On the plate, juicy McLaren Vale berry and plum fruit are initially present, the wine is dense and hints of leather and complimentary toasted spicy notes. The characters of the Padthaway components shine in the mid pal-ate with lively spearmint and lavender that freshen and add length to the wine. The Dead Letter Office has ripe, yet fine, soft tannins - is round and mouth filling, with fresh acidity.

Elderton Shiraz Cabernet Blend 2008

The Shiraz and the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit come from hand selected vineyard sites around the Barossa and South Australia, are machine harvested to allow quick delivery to the winery to ensure that fresh fruit characters are displayed in the finished wine. The fruit is crushed and destemmed before controlled fermentation takes place in overhead potter fermenting vessels. Fermentation takes about six days and is temperature controlled to allow full flavour and colour extraction. The wine only spends about six months in old American oak barrels to give
it some vanilla and coconut characters, but still remains largely fruit driven.

D'Arenberg Footbolt Shiraz 2008

The 2008 Footbolt shows off a brooding nose of dark red cherries, rhubarb and cardamon spices, with underlying earthiness. The generous palate is well-structured, with juicy blood plums and mulberries on the mid palate, rounded out by cinnamon spice from seasoned oak and balanced acidity to keep the ripe fruit in check. Firm, powdery tannins provide a memorable finish. "A solid vintage of Footbolt, d'Arenberg's bread-and-butter McLaren Vale shiraz, this draws on a deep well of red fruit and ironstone tannins--think cherries, strawberries and crushed black pepper flash-roasted in an iron skillet. This starts off cedary and ends soft and warm, focused on fruit. A versatile red for most any roast or grilled meats."

D'Arenberg d'Arrys Original Shiraz-Grenache 2005

Coffee, mocha, chocolate & leather emerge as dominant older fruit aromas flavours alongside gamey, earthy, cedar like & minty smells.
The classic hallmark of peppery-spicy character develops & the velvety texture remains. Occasionally, dried sour cherry aromas & ever so slightly bitter blackberry tannin on the palate develop, increasing the wine's food applicability. Well cellared, d'Arry's Original becomes, soft, generous, full flavoured, velvety long & seamless in bottle, with no particular component standing out, as more than four decades of previous vintages have shown. Serve at room temperature 16 – 24 ºC. now or over the next 3 – 20 years with grilled or barbecued meats, potato based dishes, dishes with noodles, rice pasta, cous cous, served with beef, veal or lamb. Roast meats and mature cheese.

D'Arenberg The Hermit Crab Marsanne-Viognier 2008

A blend of 72% Viognier and 28% Marsanne.

Expressive aromatics of lime and lemon with peaches, pears and apricot stone jumping out of the glass and spicy, floral notes in the background. Great balance on the palate, the luscious stone fruit and ginger spices harmonized by savory nuty characters from the Marsanne. Wonderful combination of freshness, complexity and balance between fruit flavor, acid and alcohol.

"The 2008 The Hermit Crab is a blend of 72% Viognier and 28% Marsanne. The aromatics offer floral notes, honey, candle wax, and peach. Smooth-textured and ripe, the wine also has excellent depth and length. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years. "

Shoo Fly Shiraz 2010

On the nose, the 2010 Shiraz shows earthy gravel, spicy licorice and dense dark mulberries, while the sweet upfront berry fruit presented on tasting gives way to complex cedar, earth and spice notes, wrapping up with ample structure and grip. The vibrant, juicy fruit runs the length of the palate and lingers with a "have another glass" finish. "Polished and supple, this is brimming with red berry, black cherry and delicate spice flavors, all coursing through the expressive finish. Drink now through 2020."

The Stump Jump GSM 2009

(42% grenache, 33% shiraz and 25% mourvedre): Deep ruby. Powerful, youthfully brooding aromas of cherry, licorice, dark chocolate and pungent herbs. Smells and tastes quite serious for an entry-level wine, offering deep dark fruit and bitter chocolate flavors that pick up sweetness with air. Supple tannins build on the nicely persistent, chewy finish. Owner and winemaker Chester Osbourne says that a lot of components that just missed the cut for d'Arenberg's flagship bottlings typically go into this wine, which gives it a less easygoing personality than most Aussie reds at this price point.

Yalumba Y Series Viognier 2011

Pale straw in color, the 2011 Y Series Viognier has aromas of honeysuckle, poached quinces and mandarin peel so evocative of this exotic variety. The palate is rich in texture and body thanks to wild yeast fermentation and ageing on lees, yet retains a refreshing quality that make it a pleasure to drink. Flavors to be found on the palate include grapefruit peel, lemongrass and stonefruit, while the texture adds layers of fruit persistence.

"Polished, open-textured and nicely balanced to let the pear, apricot and clove flavors come through clearly, lingering on the finish. Drink now."

Wishing Tree Shiraz 2008

2008 was a spectacular harvest for these Shiraz growers to the north and south of the township of Margaret River. Low yields delivered lush, highly aromatic fruit, with pepper and spice nuances in abundance. This wine has plenty of backbone, and intensity and yet wonderful balance and elegance. By fermenting each batch of growers fruit separately, there is no doubt the wine has added complexity.

"Medium garnet in color, the 2008 Shiraz displays evolving earth and spice box over a core of mulberries and kirsch. Medium to full-bodied, the palate lends a good density of mature fruit with crisp acid and powdery tannins, finishing long and spicy. Delicious now, it should remain good through 2014+."

McWilliam's Riesling 2008

The Riesling grapes were harvested during the cool of the night to reduce contact with air and preserve natural flavor. The grapes were then de-stemmed and went directly into a membrane press. The juice was cold settled and clarified prior to being inoculated with the Vin 13 yeast strain to initiate fermentation in an upright fermenters. Fermentation lasted about 18 days at 13°C (55°F) with minimal handling to reduce oxidization. After fermentation, the wine matured on its lees for 3 months to add complexity and body to the final wine. The wine was bottled under screw cap to protect the wine’s delicate flavors.

Color: Pale straw with green hues. Aromas: Lifted aromas of jasmine and lime with subtle hints of citrus blossoms. Flavors: Fresh lime, mineral notes and ripe tropical characters combine with a crisp, clean finish. Cellaring potential: Enjoy at the time of release for its fresh fruit flavors. Serving Temperature: Serve chilled (12-14°C)
